Hiya!

I'm sorry its been FOREVER since the last time I posted anything on my blog. I had a tough quarter in school and the holidays/my birthday snuck up on me so fast I couldn't believe it. I also cant believe we have THREE more days in 2010. Things have been going so good for me, I get regular PAID photo work now and it might not be glamorous portraiture but it helps pay the bills.

You can check out Passage Lounge (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000541844343) they hire me to photograph some of their events and it is so fun and I have learned a TON about using on camera flash in almost total darkness. I had a model cancel and my twitter overwhelmingly telling me not to go into work and that means one thing..... I DIDNT, and I got to take pictures.
This actually had to happen really quick because I was racing the sun that falls pretty fast this time of year.

Anyway, here is Emily, you may recognize her from a couple other shots of mine. She is always willing to be photographed and I take full advantage.

I shot this at the "golden hour" and backlit the subject with the sun to give her a nice golden hair light.

I stopped my f/stop down really small so i wasn't overwhelmed with flare but still had a little and kept that hazy look and feel to it. I hope you like it! if you do feel free to share and send people this way!

A local store here in Cincinnati, unheardofbrand.com , had an art opening featuring some hugely popular Bengal foil art work. Several Cincinnati Bengals were in attendance including the head coach him self, Marvin Lewis.

This is a shot of the "Bengal Bombers" tour bus, they attend every home game and they do it in style.

FOOD!

My assignment for one of my classes was to photograph food this week. I looked over some food shots on the inter-web and I felt like unless I had a medium format with a digital back or at least a 1.2 lens I couldn't get the cool depth of field or selective focus that really sells a food shot. Also i didn't have the time or the resources to do a 75 layer composite shot. So i decided to think a little out of the box and try something a little different.... and in my skill level.

My attempt at selling something.

I was given an assignment in school to bring in a body part model and do a session with them. I didn't want to use the standard hand/foot model that everyone brought in. I had someone booked but they ended up having to cancel two hours before the shoot so I either had to find a replacement, or i would be photographing myself. Luckily I had a friend who had just got off work and was ready and willing to help a brotha out! She mentioned she bought a Victoria Secret set and wouldn't mind modeling it for me, and who am I to decline.

Well anyway, this is how it turned out. Keep in mind I am trying to sell the product more than the model for this assignment.

Another one of Marissa, I tried to give it a film type look instead of the standard B&W. Please let me know what you think of it! I'm really unsure with my choosing abilities haha but that's a whole other issue.
Ive been really trying to get into natural light portraits lately and it is such a challenge for me because I am used to having total control of the light, from the intensity to where it hits on the face and the mood it creates. So feel free to leave me tips! Ive found with natural light you kind of have to pick a time of day and hope for the best. I know I know, selective color went out of style along with the white 80s vignette, this was was a school assignment and I like the way it turned out. This is also one of the many faces of Carissa, retarded, crazy and creepy (long story).

I had about 15 minutes to run around and play with a tilt shift lens today, I sucked pretty hard at trying to figure it out in that amount of time but at any rate i saw a guy on the steps and gave it a shot!

Its the lighting stupid!

An awesome video showing, for those of us who cant afford all the best camera/lens equipment that LIGHTING is the key, not cameras, so don't get discouraged and try your best!
